Charles David Salon Opening at the Village Green

Meet the Owners

May 01, 2012

Tell us when and how Charles David Salon started. What is your history?

DAVID: Charles David Salon opened in Hanover, Massachusetts over 17 years ago with only six chairs and four girls. After 17 years in business, we have grown to 90 employees and the 4 original girls are still with us. The team at Charles David is committed to excellence, education and giving back to the community. We consider each client as an individual with his or her own needs and desires. We strive to fulfill those needs and desires with the best talent available.

How does your partnership work? Who oversees what?

DAVID: Buddy and I have been partners both personally and professional for 26 years so we know what each of our strengths are. Buddy is a talented, popular, award winning colorist and concentrates on the latest color and style. I bring many years of luxury hotel management to the business. He works with hair and I work with the business…and it works in general! We both know that people like to be treated well wherever they go and the customer is number one.

Why did you choose to originally open South of Boston rather than in the city and what motivated your decision to open a new salon here at The Pinehills?

DAVID: The South Shore is home to Charles David Salon. We love the South Shore – the feel, the people, the community. It’s important for us to do as much for the community where we work and live as possible. It was only natural for us to look for a second location on the South Shore and we are happy to now be part of The Pinehills family of Shops at The Village Green and the timing was perfect. Everyone at Charles David is very excited about our new location at The Pinehills. And while the location is much smaller than our Hanover location we just love it.

What services can clients expect at the Charles David Salon at The Pinehills?

DAVID: At The Pinehills we will focus on hair and coloring. It is our greatest strength and Buddy is a renowned colorist in the area (we have fixed many Newbury Street mishaps!). In addition we will offer some facial waxing services (eyebrow, lip, etc.) And of course, we will have special offers for visits to our Hanover location.

You are a renowned Redken salon. Talk to us about how Charles David holds a special place in Redken history.

DAVID: Buddy was asked to be on Redken’s Color Task Force dealing with the development and education for Redken’s popular hair coloring, Color Fusion, and Charles David was used as a testing salon in the Greater Boston area. Buddy has a love for hair coloring and his dedication to his craft have made him one of the most popular and well liked colorists in the country.

In 2003 the salon became a Redken Elite Salon. The salon has purchased more Redken hair coloring and styling products than any salon in the world.

In 2010, Charles David was honored as the first ever Redken 5th Avenue Hall of Fame Inductee (even before Paula Kent, the founder of Redken). Previously, Charles David was the recipient of the Redken "Elite Salon of the Year" for six consecutive years. The "Elite Salon of the Year" award had never been given to any salon more than once. In addition to these national awards, Charles David has been honored by the local Reader's Choice Awards as a Regional Favorite for 8 consecutive years and won Regional Gold Salon in 2011. Charles David also won the 2011 Best Hair Colorists award from South Shore Living Magazine.

Will we get to see the partners at The Pinehills?!

BUDDY: Yes and we can’t wait! We live in Plymouth so we are very excited to be close to home. I will be at The Pinehills every Tuesday afternoon and all day on Saturday. David will be at The Pinehills all day on Saturday and every day at some point during the week.

What are the hot styles today?

BUDDY: Well, I see a strong fringe coming back... Those thick strong bangs to frame the front... Some are calling them “Botox Bangs”... you can understand why! Also we see a strong return of the double process blonde, thanks to the movie “My Week With Marilyn.” If you’re not into all that upkeep which can be every 3 to 4 weeks, you can get some wonderful results with strategically placed foils.. Those buttery blondes will be really hot this spring and summer. In my opinion there is nothing sexier than a tastefully shaded brunette... Think Penelope Cruz... Catherine Zeta Jones. As far as redheads go, Julianne Moore, and Renee Russo, are the ones to follow. It's so ironic that we just witnessed the passing of the great Vidal Sassoon. This is the year of the return of the geometric cuts which originated with him. You know what they say: every 30 years what you had or what you wore will make a return. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean you should wear it again!!!
