Featuring an original script celebrating individual personalities, comedic timing, and strengths
The Drama Club at Laurelwood at The Pinehills recently delighted audiences with "The Wizard of Odds," a playful reimagining of the classic tale. From idea to ovation, the production came together in a space filled with imagination, laughter, and larger-than-life personalities.
Inspired by The Wizard of Oz, the production featured an original script written specifically with the participating residents in mind, celebrating their individual personalities, comedic timing, and strengths. The result was a truly tailor-made performance that allowed residents to shine on stage.
As rehearsals progressed, the script evolved organically. Residents added personal jokes, improvised lines, and made creative edits, transforming the show into an authentic reflection of the friendships and camaraderie shared between neighbors at Laurelwood. The final performance was met with enthusiastic applause and plenty of proud smiles.
"Laurelwood's performances were a joyful success, filled with laughter, connection, and memorable moments for everyone involved," said Jane Argyle, Resident Engagement Director at Laurelwood.
To ensure the entire community could share in the experience, residents also performed an adapted version of "The Wizard of Odds" for residents in the Avita Memory Care neighborhood, bringing the same spirit of fun and inclusion to all.
Laurelwood resident Greg Murphy, who played Leo the Lion, shared, "I am just amazed at the talent that keeps emerging from our fellow residents."
