Where Finding Home Also Means Finding Friends

Joan's yearly cookie exchange and fabulous dinner

Nine years ago when I moved from California, I built a house on Skipping Stone on the Ridge. I chose The Pinehills because my daughters are nearby and since I wasn't from this area, I wanted a place where I could meet people and make friends easily. The Pinehills offered that with its abundance of activities.

Little did I know how fortunate I would be. Skipping Stone is a vibrant neighborhood within a neighborhood. There are many individuals who help to make this neighborhood a welcoming place:

• Ann Rossino greets all of the new neighbors and compiles a spreadsheet that she sends out to everyone. Ann is also our resident photographer, documenting our many activities.
• Joan has a yearly cookie exchange and dinner for the ladies.
• Robin & Tony have a yearly tree lighting ceremony with hot chocolate and cookies.
• Anna & Brian have hosted many a football party.
• The men have a group to play monthly poker games.
• Barry started a group called Retired Old Men Eating Out.
• The women have a monthly book club that members host in their homes.
• Every December Ann Potvin and myself, Caryn Stankewich, host a Skipping Stone Holiday party at the Stonebridge Clubhouse.
• There are also Memorial Day parties, the Kentucky Derby and just plain getting together.
• Walking down the street is an opportunity to stop and chat with neighbors and to get the latest news.

I was indeed fortunate to make my home in The Pinehills.
