Letters Against Isolation has continued to spread joy through the 11,500 cards and letters and over 1,200 birthday bags we have delivered since our inception.

Shortly after the pandemic began, I read an inspiring story about the Patel sisters who started a letter writing campaign called Letters Against Isolation to help combat the widespread issue of loneliness among nursing home residents worsened by the pandemic. My mother passed away before the pandemic, but I vividly remember the loneliness experienced by some of those around her and could only imagine what the residents were experiencing during that difficult time. Recognizing the exceptional nature of the sisters' concept, I reached out to them, and in January 2021, LAI, The Pinehills Chapter was established with the help of many amazing volunteers.

In addition to the uplifting cards and letters written by the LAI volunteers, we are also fortunate to receive a variety of donations, including candy, handmade bulletin boards, painted rocks, and monetary donations to purchase other items for our monthly birthday bags for the residents and hospice patients. LAI is proud to have been a part of Hearts for Hospice. We have also organized and donated holiday gift bags, a caroling event, a Shoppers Bazaar with pre-loved items for the residents and their loved ones, and prizes for bingo game winners. All of these initiatives have been made possible by our wonderful volunteers and outside donors. This mission has continued to spread joy through the 11,500 cards and letters and over 1,200 birthday bags we have delivered since our inception.
