Monitoring of the drinking water and wastewater systems over the last 25 years has confirmed the locations are working well and the environmental resources on the property are being protected for the long term.
Horsley Witten Group Eel River Watershed, sampling
Horsley Witten's work began with an evaluation of the site to identify the location to install public water supply wells that would provide high-quality drinking water into the future. This work was coordinated closely with identifying a good location for the disposal of treated wastewater effluent, ensuring it would not impact drinking water quality or sensitive surface waters such as the Eel River and Island Pond.
Horsley Witten identified locations for the public supply wells and the wastewater disposal facilities using information from monitoring wells placed across the property to map the geology and the flow of groundwater. A computer model was used to simulate the capture area to the public supply wells and to confirm the water pumped by the wells would maintain high quality. The model also helped to locate the wastewater disposal facility downgradient of the public supply wells. Finally, irrigation wells needed for the golf courses were used to draw groundwater downstream of the wastewater facility, removing nutrients from the groundwater that were then applied to the golf course turf.
Monitoring of the drinking water and wastewater systems over the last 25 years has confirmed the locations are working well and the environmental resources on the property are being protected for the long term.
