The Rye Field, left "as is" is a scenic and peaceful spot in each of New England's seasons; may nothing ever be built upon it!

As a thirty-something art teacher for the Town of Plymouth, my values were generally aligned with "tree huggers/environmentalists" (and had been since childhood) and not with developers: I am still that person. I was hoping the land would remain a pine barren, a "New England rain forest." Not being Melinda Gates, ready to purchase the land, I felt that learning as much as I could about options and having a quiet voice in that process might be meaningful.
The Green Company [representing the founding partners] was the best choice Plymouth was going to get with concern for respectful stewardship of this land. Some smaller meetings allowing for public accessibility were held in my art room at PCIS (Plymouth Community Intermediate School). Alan Green impressed me with his ability to listen to all voices. Every person at these meetings was treated with respect. He, Tony Green, and John Judge presented the concept of the OSMUD (Open Space Mixed Use Development), and the 70% open space/30% built upon land, very clearly. They seemed to live in the space on a Venn diagram where those who appreciate nature and the developer could coexist in one person.
As a group, they have been honest and have done pretty much what they said they were going to do. Maintenance of the early neighborhoods has been impressive. Mature trees left throughout this community add to its beauty. The Rye Field, left "as is" is a scenic and peaceful spot in each of New England's seasons; may nothing ever be built upon it! Having that and Old Sandwich Road just minutes from the very different Atlantic beach ecosystems highlights the magic of our great place to live. Respect for the Dark Sky Ordinance has also been important. I am grateful to the New England Development and those who had a vision of what this area could be (if not a New England Rainforest! Wink, wink.) – Mary Jane Calhoun-Donelan, Citizens Advisory Committee
