The story isn't over yet, neither are the friendships that are formed for a lifetime.
I already had a wonderful full-time job working for the Town of Plymouth in the Planning Department. I saw firsthand the Town's involvement and the endless staff meetings with The Pinehills. They knew this would work and people would come.
It seemed like John Judge, Pinehills President; Tony Green, Developer Partner; and land planner Tom were always in town hall, meeting with various town management and then attending evening meetings with the Village Steering Committee and town meeting representatives.
One day in 1999, while John Judge was meeting with the Planning Director, I asked him if he would be looking for part-time employees. He invited me to come down to their office space on Leyden Street and fill out an application. First stop: Marshalls to buy a new navy blue pantsuit—because mom said, "Always look your best; you never get a second chance to make that first impression."
I met this wonderful lady named Mary Swan who was the Sales Manager. She interviewed me on the spot and then called days later for a second and third interview to meet John Judge, Martha Bartlett (another member of the Sales Team), and the office manager, Lisa Weekes.
Before you knew it, I landed a part-time job as a Pinehills "greeter"—whatever that was. But I knew this greeter job was going to be fun. My plan was to stay five years.
And fun it was! I spent weekends "greeting" many curious and a bit skeptical Pinehills visitors, talking to them about what was to come, and offering warm chocolate chip cookies. They loved us!
My passion is cooking, so I started the Sunday morning Breakfast Club for the sales team to come together to share great breakfast and plan the day and week ahead.
Fast forward 25 years: I am still working full time for the Town of Plymouth and still LOVE working part-time weekends for The Pinehills. Why? Because I can't bear the thought of leaving the loving, caring group of friends I get to work and play with. We talk and talk and talk and laugh all the time—and get paid for being amazing.
