Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth Raises Over $82,000 at Hearts & Hammers Gala

Total is Record-Breaking

November 04, 2019     Press Releases

On Friday, October 18th, nearly 250 supporters of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth filled the ballroom at Hotel 1620 to raise important funds for HFHGP’s current home building projects. With the support and generosity from sponsors and attendees of the sold-out event, the Gala raised over $82,000, a record-breaking total for this annual tradition.

The community spirit in the room was high, as attendees enjoyed live music, silent and live auctions, video highlights and a speaking program that focused on the impact of Habitat’s mission of providing decent, affordable housing for low- to moderate-income families in need.

HFHGP is actively building four homes simultaneously; one in Kingston and three side-by-side in Plymouth. Families have been selected for all four homes, with two of the Plymouth houses designated specifically for military veterans raising children. In the tradition of Habitat, construction labor is provided by volunteers and the soon-to-be homeowners regularly work alongside to build their own homes. Across all four homes, nine children will benefit from stable, secure housing.

“We couldn’t be happier with the results of this year’s Gala, which comes at a crucial time in our construction progress,” said Jim Middleton, Executive Director of HFHGP. “We know that these homes will have a lasting, transformative impact on the families involved and we are grateful beyond measure for the support of everyone who sponsored, attended or donated items and services to make this Gala such a success.” North Easton Savings Bank, The Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust, Dennison Lubricants and Hotel 1620 were among the many businesses who sponsored the Gala.

During the evening, HFHGP honored Glynn Electric and The Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust, created by The Pinehills, LLC for their significant contributions to the current building projects, as well as their involvement in the community at large.

Under the leadership of Matt Glynn, Glynn Electric has generously wired Habitat homes over the years, and in August, they spearheaded a crew of 80 volunteers from the trades to frame the Marine Corps Veteran’s home. PAHCT has granted $150,000 for the Plymouth homes now in progress, and leadership offered key support in the land acquisition process on Long Pond Road to enable building.

HFHGP is always seeking volunteers to help with construction, which is expected to continue through the fall and winter; building typically takes place each Saturday. Anyone interested in volunteering should sign up at www.hfhplymouth.org. You can also follow the progress on the organization’s Facebook page. Any businesses looking to lend a hand or make a donation toward the projects are encouraged to contact amy@hfhplymouth.org.
