Celebrating the Quiet Work That Builds Community
At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth's recent Annual Meeting, Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust was honored with the organization's Special Merritt Award — named for Reverend Bob and Peg Merritt, whose legacy set the standard for true commitment to the Town of Plymouth.
We talk a lot about the many things that makes The Pinehills special. But some of the best things happen quietly — through the steady philanthropic work of trustees, volunteers, and community partners who have been showing up for Plymouth families for years. And nowhere is that more visible than in the work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth.
The best way to share this story is to let those who have played foundational roles tell it.
Two voices. Two perspectives. One partnership that has made a big difference.
Michael "Buster" Main, Former Board of Directors, Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust
When Michael “Buster” Main challenged The Pinehills on affordable housing in 2009, it came from a simple place—he believed more needed to be done. And, instead of pushing back, The Pinehills leadership invited him in, recognizing his passion for the issue.
That’s what led Buster to help establish Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust, turning concern into action that resulted in collaborations with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth and Plymouth Taskforce to End Homelessness creating 22 homes for fellow Plymoutheans.
"They've created homes and no one knows about it. They went out of their way to help."

Amy Belmore, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth
Amy Belmore has worked alongside The Pinehills and Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust for years — watching the partnership with Habitat grow from a promising start into something that has changed lives in Plymouth. In her own words, the impact goes far beyond the dollars.
"Beyond the critical funds they've provided, the trustees have become trusted friends — always accessible and responsive, willing to share their expertise and connections as we work to increase our impact."

It Takes a Village!
Finally, all of the contributions through Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust would not have been possible without the chance that Plymouth Town Meeting gave The Pinehills more than 25 years ago.
That leap of faith brought forth countless generously-minded new neighbors, dedicated trustees, and collaborations with community partners who do the hard work everyday of turning a vision of homes for all into REAL front doors, fresh starts, kitchen tables, and parents who can proudly provide a home for their kids.
To our friends at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth, and to all of you who look out for your neighbors, thank you for what you do every single day. And to everyone who loves The Pinehills, know that the place you love loves Plymouth right back.
Let's close with what matter most. Seven families. Sixteen children. A lifetime of memories just beginning. Here are a few of their Habitat stories from over the years:
- A Home for Irene — A mother and her two children find a place to call their own — with a little help from The Pinehills Affordable Housing Charitable Trust
- Allison & Taylor’s New Home – The first of three home dedication at Long Pond Road.
- Veteran Homes on Long Pond Road — One grant. Three homes. Two of them built to honor the veterans who served us all.
- A Home for the Holidays — Two nurses. Two kids. One Christmas morning they'll never forget.
We hope you'll consider supporting these incredible community organizations!
